In a World of Machines, I choose to Be Human

Hey folks! AI’s kinda snuck into our lives, hasn’t it? It’s like a friendly helper that’s always around now. In this article, I would like to talk about the influence of AI in our relationship.

This article is a shortened version. You can read the full-length version here.

AI’s Everywhere, Man!

  • Morning: You wake up, yell at Alexa to shut off the alarm, and bam—weather and traffic updates in seconds.
  • Daytime: Stuck on some code? AI’s got your back with a quick fix.
  • Night: Feeling low? A wellness app listens, chats, and never judges.

It’s 2025, and this stuff’s normal now. In the next 3 years, AI might even cook your breakfast or tuck you in.

Wild, right?

Why It’s a Big Deal

AI’s popping up in the big stuff:

  • Cash: It could make rich folks richer and leave others behind.
  • Health: Smarter doctor stuff—think early checkups or therapy apps.
  • Relationships: Here’s the kicker. Even with all this tech, tons of us feel lonely—Cigna found that 58% of U.S. adults feel lonely.
People scroll, shut down, or turn to AI for a buddy.

Why AI Feels Like a Pal

For some, especially older folks, AI’s a quiet companion. It doesn’t sleep, argue, or forget. It’s there 24/7.

  • Always On: Living alone? AI fills the silence with soft words.
  • No Drama: Been hurt before? AI’s safe—kind and chill every time.

In Japan, robot pets like Paro ease loneliness in care homes. And it works. A guy “married” his chatbot—not legal, but real to him.

People on Reddit say AI gets them in ways even humans don’t. I get it—it’s easy. People must understand that chat based AI’s just predicting words, not feeling them. It’s not human with emotions.

Real People Are Messy (and Awesome)

Real connections? Total chaos sometimes. Awkward silences, misunderstandings, effort, tears—all of it. But that’s what makes them special. They push us, grow us.

AI? It’s too perfect.

It just agrees, no real feelings. It won’t argue or make you better through the tough stuff.

What’s Bugging Me

Some people are starting to think AI is getting so good at “feelings” that they might choose it over humans for emotional support. It feels safer and less messy.

In future'

  • Older folks living alone might appreciate how AI is always there for them.
  • Kids could find robot friends more reliable than the unpredictable classmates at school.

But if this keeps going, we might end up having relationships only with AI. If we start thinking AI is better than people, life could lose its spark. The best moments like laughter, arguments, memories come from real human connections.

So, What’s Next?

I’m not hating on AI—it’s super helpful. I use it to boost my work. But we’ve got to draw a line somewhere. Maybe make AI look and act more robotic, less human-like.

So far, chat-based models are part of our lives, but soon physical AI bots will be fully integrated too. This is the now-or-never moment to set rules.

Rules could help, but it’s up to us. Pick the messy, real human stuff over the easy AI fix.

Reach out. Chat. Argue. Listen. Those raw moments? That’s what living is. In a world full of smart machines, human vibes are precious. Let’s not ditch ‘em.
